THE SHORT ANSWER

Coen is the playable Dawnwalker. His family is the heart of the rescue story; Marat, Lacra and Anca have their own motives; Brencis and his vrakhiri lieutenants rule Vale Sangora.

Coen: a life before the transformation

Coen grew up near Laslea as the eldest child in his family. He worked in the silver mines from a young age and learned swordsmanship from his father, Pieter. He also studied Latin in secret, a detail that connects his early curiosity with the knowledge he can pursue later.

His transformation makes him human by day and vampire by night, but it does not erase that background. The story’s rescue objective is about people he already knows and loves. Choices can shape his path without turning him into a blank-slate character.

The family he is trying to save

The Coen’s Roots bulletin introduces his parents and three younger siblings. It describes tensions, responsibilities and affection inside the family rather than giving them interchangeable hostage roles. Those details explain why his goal matters before any particular outcome is known.

CharacterRelationship and background
PieterCoen’s father; a former mercenary who taught him swordsmanship
EsmeCoen’s mother; her illness worsens as Brencis rises to power
YannaSecond-oldest sibling; cares for Mirto and Lunka
MirtoYounger brother, described as restless

Marat, Lacra and Anca

Marat leads a rebellion against the vrakhiri. He is charismatic and courageous, but the official introduction makes clear that trust is not automatic: Coen must prove himself. Treat him as a person with an agenda, not as a guaranteed permanently loyal party member.

Lacra is driven by vengeance and has a past and purpose that are not fully explained in her introduction. Anca is a quieter guide who taught Coen to read and carries a significant secret. The publisher describes relationships shaped by trust, influence and choice; it does not label all three as romance options.

Brencis and the vampire court

Brencis is the ruler Coen must confront. The vrakhiri bulletin traces his human origins to the Roman Empire and describes ambitions that survived his transformation. The features video says he uses his blood to heal people while demanding obedience, making his rule more complicated than terror alone.

His lieutenants bring different histories and responsibilities. Xanthe is the oldest, with roots in ancient Greece and a connection to the Blood Guards. Ambrus is the youngest and eager to prove himself, while Bakir is portrayed as a brutal, warlike figure.

Introductions are not predetermined outcomes

The official Q&A says not every vrakhiri has to die. The story can change through alliances, opposition and inaction. A character appearing in a trailer is therefore not proof of one fixed ending or a mandatory boss order.

This index keeps to officially introduced identities and roles. It does not claim a complete cast list, reveal an unverified ending or infer a romance route from promotional artwork. For relationship questions, the separate romance guide explains the boundary between what the publisher says and what remains unspecified.
