THE SHORT ANSWER
Dawnwalker takes place in Vale Sangora, a fictional Carpathian valley. Official material identifies Svartrau, Laslea, the Tantari Woods, the Howling Keep and Shrike’s Crag, but does not provide a complete collectible map.
A valley shaped by its landscape
Vale Sangora draws on the landscapes and cultures of Central and Eastern Europe. The world-building bulletin describes forests, swamps, caves, mountain paths, ruins and settlements. It is a hand-crafted fantasy setting, not a literal map of a modern country.
The developers also confirm dynamic weather, with fog affecting visibility. Day and night change the threats and opportunities around Coen. These systems give places context, but they do not establish a numerical map size or a guaranteed travel time between landmarks.
Svartrau and Laslea
Svartrau is Vale Sangora’s capital and a center of Brencis’s power. The Secrets of Vale Sangora bulletin describes a city enriched by the silver trade, with cellars, caves and old ruins beneath it. Its underground spaces are presented as dangerous places with their own history, not merely an empty shortcut network.
Laslea is Coen’s home village. His family lived in the nearby hills, and his early life included work in the silver mines. That personal connection makes the settlement part of his background rather than an anonymous starting town.
| Place | What the official material establishes |
|---|---|
| Svartrau | Capital; silver trade; extensive underground spaces |
| Laslea | Coen’s home village and family roots |
| Tantari Woods | Forest associated with the Howling Keep |
| Howling Keep | A mysterious mansion described through local tales |
| Shrike’s Crag | An old quarry tied to a violently suppressed rebellion |

The Howling Keep and Shrike’s Crag
The official bulletin presents the Howling Keep through stories told by locals. The mansion is said to appear and disappear within the Tantari Woods, and its mourning lady is central to those tales. That is in-world folklore: it should not be turned into an invented quest trigger or a precise navigation instruction.
Shrike’s Crag is associated with the former ruler Skender Dragosti and the slaughter of a peasant rebellion. The article describes the old quarry as a feared, cursed place. It supplies a historical and atmospheric lead, not an item checklist, boss weakness or proven route through the area.
The valley’s inhabitants are not all human
Official bestiary material names kobolds in the mines, psoglavs in the wilds, undead-like guardians in ancient ruins and the Blood Guards serving the vrakhiri. Kobolds are described as attacking in groups and knowing the mines well. Blood Guards are linked to Xanthe’s dark rites.
Other named creatures include uriashi, likhos and tatzelwurms. These names are useful for recognizing the world’s folklore influences, but this page does not assign enemy levels, loot tables or spawn coordinates. Those would require different evidence from a location overview.
How to use this world guide
Use the place names as orientation for the story and as leads when you encounter them in the game. Ordinary exploration does not spend narrative time, so learning a place is different from committing to a quest with a time cost. That distinction matters more than an unverified fastest route.
There is no fabricated interactive map here. The official sources do not provide complete region boundaries, collectible coordinates or a full list of points of interest. The world map included with some physical editions is an edition extra, not a verified online collectible tracker.
